Hi there!
Here is a little about
me. I grew up in the rural heartland of Simcoe County, Ontario. Work
opportunities led me and my husband Mike (also my DJ!), to reside near the
outskirts of Peel Region for many years. Lucky for me, we lived very close to a
popular country bar with a vibrant line dancing program. I was too nervous to
check it out on my own, but after a friend organized a night out for me I was
hooked! I was so amazed to see all those dancers in unison, remembering all the
steps to so many dances. I had no idea what they were doing but I figured that
if they could do it, I could do it to! So I signed up for Beginner lessons with
my local recreation department where I was lucky to have a skilled and
passionate instructor. It took me about a year and a half of Beginner lessons
before I was ready to go back to the bar and dance with a degree of confidence
(and lots of faking it!!!). I learned so many fabulous dances with the talented
instruction/choreography team of Double Trouble (Cathy Montgomery & Kathy
Kaczmarek). Although I had no dance background, my music background helped me a
quite a bit.
When the time was
right, Mike and I decided to pack up and look for a new home in the country; we
were delighted to find the charming and welcoming Village of Norwood! While our
new house was being built we spent 14 months traveling across Canada. I was
fortunate to participate in classes and visit clubs with several different
instructors/choreographers, including the great Gerard Murphy in Nova Scotia
and even some higher level classes with the amazing Nathalie Blais in Quebec,
where line dancing so popular. During this period I also spent lots of time
practicing!
Seeing a need in my new
community, I got licensed and insured, and started teaching in January 2023. I
am so grateful for the many opportunities I have had, and the many wonderful
people I have met and who have supported & encouraged me along the way!
My goal is to provide
accessible opportunities to spread the joy of dance wherever I can.
See you on the dance
floor!
What is Modern Line Dancing? Standard Modern Line Dancing has its roots in the country line
dancing style that many people are familiar with. The main difference is that
we now incorporate music and steps from a variety of musical and dance genres
(e.g., pop, Latin, Celtic, hip hop). The Modern Line Dance community spans the
world! New dances are published daily on websites like Copperknob and Bootstepper.com Modern line dancing
routines can be quite sophisticated but there is a level for everyone, ranging from
Absolute Beginner to Advanced. A fun way to get exercise, inspire yourself, and
make new friends! No partner needed!
